Transport Studies

These studies are conducted once the preliminary route is determined.  You should consult any existing studies from the transportation sector, which can include the necessary data.  Teamwork with the local streets and/or transportation department is necessary and it´s suggested that it is they who are in charge of conducting these studies.

The study of roadways and transportation consists of evaluating the types of roadways, their direction, vehicle capacity and the types of vehicles that travel on the predetermined route.

Preferably, the route of the Ciclovía Recreativa should utilize main roads that are large and one directional.  In the case of two-way streets, it should be determined whether adequate protection exists to keep vehicles far away from users.  Roads with medians or dividers are examples of this. 

Additionally, the selection of alternate routes to receive the traffic that would normally pass over the road selected for the Ciclovía Recreativa should be considered.  It should guarantee that these routes are easily accessible, especially for users of public transit. 

Vehicle Capacity

It is important to evaluate the degree to which traffic will be impacted on the different routes and to project the increase in traffic on the alternate routes.

Among the aspects to take into account are: to conduct a vehicle count on the alternate roads and the road selected for the Ciclovía Recreativa.  The count should be conducted on work days and holidays, during peak and off hours, and should classify private and public transportation vehicles.
